The Field of Knowledge, the research division of Evrosem, together with the International Sunflower Association (ISA), conducts comprehensive studies to develop strategies against Orobanche Cumana (sunflower broomrape). For the next stage of laboratory research, we need samples of the most virulent (aggressive) broomrape races.
It must be broomrape seeds from sunflower hybrid crops, resistant to races 7 (G) and above, of key world breeding companies. IMI hybrids (Clearfield technology) with resistance to 7+ (F+) broomrape races are also of particular interest.
What to do?
Collect at least 40 broomrape plants from a single field (the more, the better). For each plant, remove seed capsules and place them in a sealed plastic bag. The best option is 2 bags with a ZIP lock (one in one), as the seeds are very small and light.
Ensure samples are collected from broomrape directly attached to the sunflower hybrid roots, not volunteers. Samples should be collected at least 40-50 m from the field’s edge to avoid volunteer contamination.
