Evrosem is a leader in the field of breeding and testing of crop hybrids in Ukraine. Thanks to many years of experience, scientific research and cooperation with leading scientific institutions, the company creates highly productive sunflower and corn hybrids that meet the challenges of modern agricultural production. The main goal of Evrosem's breeding work is to obtain seeds that will demonstrate the best results in different agro-climatic conditions of Ukraine. Evrosem cooperates with well-known scientific institutions such as the NS Seme Institute of Agriculture and Vegetable Growing, the International Sunflower Association (ISA) and others.
Hybrid testing and R&D locations
Poltava region is a strategic site for testing new hybrids for zoning and adaptation to local soil and climatic conditions. This allows us to create high-yielding sunflower and corn hybrids that can effectively reach their potential in the temperate continental climate. Poltava region also conducts research on extreme chemical stress, including testing the resistance of sunflower plants to certain herbicides and fertilisers, which ensures their stable performance in industrial conditions. In particular, in 2024, a trial was conducted at the Pole Znannya demo site, which proved the resistance of the Stark 7+ Sumo sunflower hybrid to 200 g/ha of tribenuron-methyl-based herbicide (with a resistance rate of 50 g/ha).
Dnipropetrovska oblast, Synelnykivskyi district, is a key location for researching hybrid resistance to broomrape (Orobanche cumana), a dangerous parasite that significantly reduces sunflower yields. It is here that genetic lines with increased tolerance to different races of broomrape are tested. This research is extremely important for farmers in the south-eastern regions, where the broomrape problem is particularly acute. Thanks to systematic testing, Eurosem is able to offer the market hybrids that effectively counteract this threat and ensure a stable harvest. Today, the benchmark hybrid for broomrape resistance is our classic Avalon 7+ hybrid, which inhibits the germination of the most aggressive races of broomrape in both laboratory and field trials.
The Institute of Oilseeds in Zaporizhzhia region is a leading scientific base for studying the zoning of hybrids in the steppe zone, as well as their resistance to common diseases. In the conditions of insufficient moisture and high temperatures, Evrosem tests new sunflower breeding developments for productivity, resistance to Fusarium, powdery mildew and Alternaria. Cooperation with the institute’s scientists allows us to expand the genetic base of hybrids by adapting them to the harsh, arid steppe climate. This is extremely important in the context of climate change, when the average temperature is rising and precipitation is decreasing.
The Vinnytsia Institute of Forage Crops is an important centre for determining the productivity of hybrids in the forest-steppe zone. Scientists at this institute, together with experts from Evrosem, evaluate the yield, oil and protein content of seeds. High-precision laboratory tests allow us to select the best genotypes for further production. Testing in this region is the key to a stable harvest even in the face of climate change.
Odesa, the Odesa Institute of Field Crops is a unique site for researching drought tolerance in hybrids. Given the intensification of climate change and the increase in drought periods, breeding drought-resistant sunflower hybrids is a priority for Evrosem. Testing the performance of hybrids in conditions of moisture deficit allows us to identify the best samples for cultivation in the southern regions of Ukraine and other arid zones.
Innovation and scientific potential of research
Evrosem not only tests hybrids in different regions, but also actively implements innovative research methods. The use of modern agricultural technologies, laboratory analyses and artificial intelligence in productivity assessment allows us to create seeds that meet the highest international standards. Cooperation with leading scientific institutions ensures scientific reliability and high efficiency of all research.
Thus, Evrosem is not just a seed producer, but a true breeding hub that integrates new approaches to hybrid selection and sunflower cultivation. Thanks to a systematic approach to testing, involvement of scientists and implementation of advanced technologies, the company provides farmers with high-quality seeds adapted to the real challenges of modern agriculture.
