Stark 7+ Sumo sunflower hybrid is a powerful tool in the hands of modern farmers who want to get the most out of every hectare. Thanks to its adaptation to intensive sunflower cultivation technology and resistance to sulfonylurea herbicides (Sumo/Express® technology), this hybrid demonstrates exceptional stability and yield in different climatic zones of Ukraine.
Stark sunflower was created for high-yield agricultural production. This hybrid fully reveals its potential in intensive cultivation conditions with the right choice of protection, nutrition and soil treatment systems.
Why choose Stark 7+ Sumo sunflower hybrid
Stark sunflower hybrid has powerful genetics, high early growth energy and a strong root system.
Its advantages are especially noticeable when using intensive cultivation techniques, which include balanced fertilisation, precise sowing dates, pest and disease control, and effective herbicide protection.
The main advantages of the Stark 7+ Sumo hybrid include:
- high yield — potential of over 55 c/ha;
- resistance to Express® (Summo) herbicides — effective control of dicotyledonous weeds;
- good adaptability to dry conditions;
- high tolerance to phomopsis, phomopsis, rust and broomrape (races A–G+);
- uniform ripening and convenient harvesting;
- plasticity to different soil types.

After harvesting grain crops, during soil preparation for sunflower sowing, spring field work usually begins with levelling the stubble. Sunflowers like loose, well-levelled soil. It is recommended to apply soil herbicides before sowing. As for sunflowers, herbicides with the active ingredients promethrin, terbuthazine, and acetochlor are most often used in their cultivation, with mandatory incorporation into the soil during pre-sowing cultivation.
The effectiveness of fertilisers depends on many factors: application timing, availability of nutrients (especially phosphorus), weather conditions and soil type. In the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine, the norm N60P60–90K40–60 is considered effective. Given the intensive consumption of nutrients by sunflowers, it is advisable to apply 1.2–1.5 kg/ha of nutrients in terms of active ingredients.
On heavily weeded fields, it is better to postpone sowing sunflowers until the soil warms up to 10–12 °C. This allows you to destroy early weeds by pre-sowing cultivation.
Sunflowers are sown in a dotted pattern with a row spacing of 70 cm, but in recent years there has been growing interest in sowing with a row spacing of 45 cm. This approach allows plants to better utilise the feeding area and improves the structure of the crop.
The depth of seed placement depends on the type of seed and moisture conditions. For hybrids, the optimal depth is 4–6 cm. If the top layer of soil is dry or there is no herbicide protection, the depth can be increased to 7–8 cm. This creates conditions for effective harrowing before and after emergence to control dicotyledonous and grass weeds.
It is essential to control weeds with insurance herbicides, pests and diseases on the crop. This will help reduce competition from weeds and unlock the full potential of the hybrid.
Harvesting begins when the seed moisture content is 9–10%. In regions with high autumn humidity, desiccation is used to accelerate ripening and facilitate harvesting. The optimal time for this is when the seed moisture content is up to 30% and half or more of the plants have reached yellow ripeness.
Thanks to an intensive approach, Stark sunflower is able to unlock its full potential and ensure high profits even in years with changing weather conditions.
